Based on the Microchip MCP23017 IC, this module communicates over the standard I2C bus, requiring only SDA and SCL connections while providing sixteen individually configurable GPIO pins organized into two 8-bit ports (Port A and Port B). Each pin can be independently configured as an input or output, with support for internal pull-up resistors, polarity inversion, and hardware interrupt generation for efficient event-driven applications.
The module features three hardware address pins (A0, A1, and A2), allowing up to eight MCP23017 modules to share the same I2C bus.
